In 2014, Todd was selected by the National Academy of Personal Injury Attorneys as one of the Top 10 Personal Injury Attorneys in Kentucky under the age of 40, after being nominated and selected for the top 50 by the organization’s independent selection committee, which led to his being then selected as one of the top 10 in Kentucky by its board of governors.
Previously in 2012, Todd was selected by The National Trial Lawyers: Top 40 under 40, as one of the top 40 trial lawyers under the age of 40 practicing in Kentucky. Membership in the Top 40 under 40 is by invitation only and is extended exclusively to 40 attorneys in each state who exemplify superior qualifications, trial results, and leadership as a lawyer under the age of 40 as of January 1. Attorneys selected for membership must also focus their practice in the areas of civil plaintiff or criminal defense law and they must be in good standing with the state bar association. In addition to his active trial practice, Todd has also been lead counsel or co-counsel in multiple cases appealed to the Supreme Court of Kentucky and Kentucky Court of Appeals.
After becoming a lawyer and before joining Varellas & Varellas, Todd clerked on the Supreme Court of Kentucky, completing a one-year clerkship for Justice Mary C. Noble (now Associate Chief Justice of the Supreme Court). Todd previously worked in the areas of civil litigation in Lexington and trial defense in Washington, D.C.
Todd attended law school after being awarded a full academic scholarship for law school, including the top fellowship awarded by the Graduate School, the Charles T. Wethington, Jr. Fellowship, and a multi-year scholarship awarded by the College of Law. While in law school, he took advantage of opportunities to develop his litigation and trial skills and his understanding of the litigation process.
In addition to his experience in the legal field, prior to law school Todd’s international and national experience includes studying in Athens, Greece, traveling to Mexico and South America, teaching English as a second language to high school students in Shanghai, China, where he gave the commencement address, and interning for his Congressman on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.
A native of Lexington, Kentucky, Todd is dedicated to serving our clients and representing people across Kentucky in claims for wrongful death or for serious injuries, and he seeks to find the best remedy to their legal issues.
