Pike County was formed in December of 1821. The county was named after General Zebulon Pike who discovered Pikes Peak. From 1860 till 1891, Pike County was the center of the Hatfield and McCoy feud. You can currently take a tour of famous locations of the Hatfield & McCoy feud. Pike County has been a principal coal producing county since the early 1900’s. Pike County has a population of around 65,000 residents with 6,000 of those residents living in the county seat of Pikeville. Pike is the largest county in regards to land area in Kentucky and it’s the third largest banking center. Pike County banks and financial institutions have over one billion dollars in assets.
