Shelby County was named after Kentucky’s first Governor, Isaac Shelby. In 2010 the population of Shelby County was around 42,000 with 14,000 of those residents living within the city limits of Shelbyville. Shelbyville was founded on land donated by William Shannon in 1792. Shelbyville is known as the “American Saddlebred Capital of the World”.
